A daughter called in August and asked whether we could do something for her parents in September. Six weeks, one orchard, thirty-six people, and a hard rule that neither parent was to be told anything.

We kept it to one table, one menu and one toast. The whole file was eleven pages, which is the shortest it has ever been, and it is the event we get asked about most.
